The circuit was wet for the early running but soon dried out and it was the Williams test driver of Kazuki Nakajima who set the pace with a best lap of 1:12.953s less than a tenth of a second ahead of regular Williams driver Alex Wurz. Last month in testing at the same circuit Lewis Hamilton ended the test fastest with a lap of 1:11.119s in near perfect cnditions.
